NcEST leverages expertise

NEST leverages the expertise
of energy efficiency professionals
to advance the sustainability and
conservation goals of North Carolina.

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) mandates the phase out of incandescent bulbs and T12 fluorescent lighting, among other energy-efficiency initiatives, beginning in 2012.

Recognizing that most businesses and households are unaware and unprepared for this change, The North Carolina Energy Savings Taskforce in an effort to effect early public adoption of energy efficient practices.

The NEST Taskforce recruits professionals already involved in providing electrical, lighting and energy efficient services.  By agreeing to participate in NEST, members receive training to educate their customers about EISA, including conducting energy audits, and how to connect customers to available incentives and rebates.

In exchange for the training, members agree to report to the Taskforce completed energy audits and energy retrofit and conversion projects.  The Taskforce will further support Members through outreach support and on-going communications.

The Taskforce benefits North Carolina by:

  1. Improving the skills and knowledge of those individuals in trades represented in the NEST taskforce, thus protecting jobs.

  2. Taskforce members may then leverage their NEST training to improve customer service by sharing knowledge, thus improving public awareness regarding EISA and methods for saving energy.

  3. With improved awareness, business owners and homeowners
will act to implement the recommendations of the energy audits.
The resulting spending will further stimulate the State economy.

  4. Energy efficient retrofitting and conversion projects resulting from the efforts of NEST will protect and create jobs in trades and manufacturing.

  5. North Carolina’s economy benefits from helping businesses and homeowners lower the costs of energy consumption.

  6. By effecting energy conservation efforts on a broader scale through the NEST Taskforce, North Carolina has accelerated its efforts to protect the environment, natural resources and our energy future.
